About
I became a photographer, because I was a foreign language major in school. That's right. I picked up my first 35mm camera (a Minolta rangefinder) just before I left for a year of study in France. I joined a camera club where I was living in Normandy where I learned how to use my camera and how to print my black and white photos. Little did I know that this was the beginning of a life-long passion and career.
From black and white editorial photography where I got "my chops," I eventually began photographing with color film, especially color slides. I enjoyed photographing a variety of subjects. And I began experimenting with "sandwiching" slides to create unique, rich looking images - images that would make the observer pause and wonder. When I delved into digital imagery, I was able to have more freedom of expression in my images. I also have taken some motion film and video classes along the way.which is helpful in posting to social media.
Whether doing editorial photography or fine art, I have learned their are common elements to both - composition, lighting, and telling the story, to name a few. I continue to experiement with my images, incorporating my digital paintings with my photos. I am currently learning how to paint with acrylics which I would like to combine with my photos.
