Assisting is a great way to get started as a photographer, and I recommend beginning as an assistant to multiple photographers, if you have the chance to.

In this video I discuss the benefits for choosing to begin as an assistant, and my experiences working with many assistants over the years. There are some important DOs and DON'Ts when assisting and I talk about the best habits you can develop early on that will help you as a photographer and also how to work with your own assistants in the future.

In the second video I discuss why hiring interns, and especially student interns, is a great way to build up the skills in an individual so they can work themselves into an assistant position.

"I began to establish my photographic style very early on, but it wasn't until I started working with models that my identity as a photographer really began to form itself. I started shooting mostly nudes, but I quickly was thrown into fashion and commercial shoots where I started working with supermodels and big celebrities.

In the first video I outline important points on the philosophy I developed over the years in so many different situations on how to make the model comfortable and make yourself comfortable. In the next two videos I discuss the specifics on how to shoot nudes, what to do and not do, and how to handle big name celebrities and not be intimidated."
