My personal style to exhibit the beauty and calm of owning a Sailboat....
On a beautiful Miami, Florida evening, I was shooting in my favorite local spot, Sailboat Bay, in the heart of the storied Coconut Grove. On this particular night, the wind was uncharacteristically calm, the Sailboats that line the Bay had none of their usual sway and were barely moving at all. I set up my tripod and remote shutter release on the shoreline to capture their complete stillness as the Moonlight, and a bit of light from the shore, illuminated the Boats. The linear nature of the Masts that reached toward the Night Sky clearly makes the image. I moved so that the Boats and their reflections, lined up across the image with the Catamaran, which was slightly in front of the line, just off-center. Finally, I made sure to leave a bit of space on each end of the image for the subject(s) to"breathe."
The pitch-black Sky and Water framed the lit Boats and as a bonus, Stars can be seen above including a large one, maybe the North Star, just to the right of the center of the image. In this final selection that I chose from several exposures, almost every boat is perfectly still except the small Catamaran up front shows the slightest bit of motion, adding some interest to the image as a reminder that this incredible calm...was exceedingly rare, and exemplifies the feeling of owning a Sailboat.
I'm an afficianado when it comes to boat pictures. This image is an abstract as much as a tranquil marine scene. You have the horizonal line of the boats contrasted with the vertical lines of the masts which are accentuated by their reflections. You also have the contrast of the light objects against the black. Kudos to you for recognizing this uncommon tranquil scene and capturing it for us to enjoy.
