I hope this is permissible and ok to ask for some feedback on several images that I am considering entering in my Jazz Journalist's Association's Photo of the Year contest. The photos have to have been shot in 2023 and so I did a quick cull of some shoots and came up with these choices. I would be so appreciative of hearing from my fellow pros and artists of which one you think is best and perhaps why, although a written explanation is not necessary. Many thanks in advance and moderators, please let me know if this kind of posting is acceptable!
Photos 1 and 2 are Jon Baptiste.
Photos 3 and 6 are Melanie Charles (a relatively new and fast rising singer).
Photo 4 is Samara Joy who has found her pot of gold!
Photo 5 is Brandee Younger another rising jazz star.
Photo 7 is a legendary Jazz Festival Producer, Frank Malfitano and Will Lee (bassist for Letterman for years) at a memorial for a jazz saxophonist.
Photo 8 is Marshall Allen who is the new leader of the Sun Ra Arkestra, after being in the band forever! He was 99 when I shot this and is going to be 100 in May after my father's 100th birthday in April!
